Pencil Sketch Techniques

There are many different types of pencil sketching techniques that are taught which can be very confusing. So how do you know which ones to use? The main thing to remember is to start with the basics then as you feel comfortable with your basic sketching techniques, you should move forward into the more advanced techniques.

There have been many studies showing that a person reaches a “professional” level after dedicating at least 10,000 hours to whatever he/she is trying to master. Now maybe you are not trying to reach that level, but instead are drawing for the fun of it. That’s okay, but if you want to at least be good at it you should practice your pencil sketch techniques along with always trying to improve.

This website will not only provide basic pencil sketching techniques for beginners but will also provide pencil sketch tutorials, tips and suggestions for advanced artists.  For instance – here are some basic pencil sketch techniques that beginners  (and sometimes people who’ve been drawing for years) struggle with:

When drawing a persons head a beginner typically has problems with getting the head proportion correct.
The facial features are not aligned correctly which makes them look distorted
    Incorrect shading technique
Not using the correct pencil (too hard or soft)
    Incorrect tones and values

These are just a few of the many things that the free report covers in detail with illustrations to help you correct these problems so you can improve your drawing techniques.

You can also use the many pencil sketching techniques that are available and taught on this website, if you are wanting to draw portraits, figures, landscapes, cartoons or whatever you enjoy drawing. These techniques are the basics for many styles of drawing / sketching and are used as the foundation in which many artists develop their own styles.

Just remember to have fun and that it’s not about being technical or accurate but instead, being loose and expressing yourself. Try to create your own style and not copy another artist’s. Be yourself – have fun – mistakes can be erased.

So whenever your ready let’s get started on your journey to becoming a better artist…
