Show photographs of the Exotic Flowers, Leaves, or Exotic Flowers & Butterflies. Talk about Exotic Flowers, Leaves, or Exotic Flowers & Butterflies, their nature, shapes and forms, where they grow (or live), more. Demonstrate NeoPopRealism ink pen / pattern drawing technique to students: draw a line that creates Exotic Flower, Leaf, or Exotic Flower & Butterfly shape, divide it into sections. These sections fill with different repetitive patterns. Some sections should be left blank. Eraser never used: if a 'mistake' made the following repetitive patterns balance the whole composition and make this 'mistake' invisible. Use piece of white paper 8.5"x11" to draw 10 or more different samples of repetitive patterns - zigzag half white/half black, dots, small circles, big circles, rectangular, waves, paralleled lines, white circles on black, dots mixed with circles, zigzags with triangles... Students will create their own samples of repetitive patterns. Students will later use these repetitive patterns' samples when creating their final drawing.
Day 3:
Students will refer to pictures of Exotic Flowers, Leaves, or Exotic Flowers & Butterflies. Students will create their own drawings of Exotic Flowers, Leaves, or Exotic Flowers & Butterflies. Students will refer to ink pen/ patterns drawing samples keeping in mind when and how to use these various patterns.
Day 4: Students finish drawing process.
Discussion Questions:
What did you learn (know, if they learned before) about NeoPopRealism ink pen/ pattern drawing that you did not know before? What did you learn about Nadia Russ? Which repetitive pattern was your favorite? Why? What did you find easy to accomplish within your artwork? What did you find difficult? What would you do different next time?
